How To Make Flavored Coffee Syrups-
You are going to be amazed at how truly easy it is to make latte drinks right at home, to serve guests this holiday season. In all the recipes I share with you today, you will notice that they all start with some combination of sugar and water boiled into a simple syrup with the addition of spices and flavorings. That’s truly all there is to it.
So let’s get started…
The Basic Simple Syrup 101
if you have never made a simple syrup as a base. This is what you will do…
Combine 1 cup water and 1 cup white sugar.
Bring water and sugar to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer until it has reduced by about half, which should take approximately 5-8 minutes.
For Flavored Coffee Syrups
Experiment with flavors, spices, and extracts to create your favorite coffee drink syrups. Practice in small batches, but once you find a blend you like, you can make larger portions and store in the refrigerate.
Now that you know how to make a basic syrup, here are seven flavored homemade coffee syrup recipes for you to try.
Caramel Syrup
¾ cup sugar
½ cup water
¼ cups caramel sauce
Combine the sugar, water and caramel sauce in a small pan. Heat the mixture over medium to high heat, stirring often, until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is nice and smooth. Remove from the heat and let cool. Store in the refrigerator.
Salted Caramel Syrup
1/2 cup sugar
3 tablespoons salted butter, cubed
1/4 cup heavy cream, at room temperature
In a medium saucepan, cook the sugar over medium heat, stirring often (if it becomes lumpy, reduce heat and refrain from stirring). When it turns a deep amber color, add the butter and stir until it is melted. Now add the cream (at this point the cream will make the mixture bubble up so be careful) whisk the syrup until the caramel is smooth. Remove from heat and let cool. Refrigerate extra syrup.
Vanilla Coffee Syrup
3 ½ cups water
3 cups sugar
½ cup brown sugar
3 tablespoons vanilla extract
In a medium saucepan over medium high heat, gently stir together the water and sugars. Cook until mixture becomes thick (approximately 12-15 minutes). Allow to cool and stir in vanilla extract. Store in a glass bottle.
Hazelnut Coffee Syrup
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
Hazelnut extract to taste.
Cook simple syrup as instructed for the basic recipe above. Then add hazelnut flavoring to taste.
Gingerbread Spice Syrup
1 cup water
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 whole star anise
5 whole cloves
Combine all ingredients and simmer gently on medium heat. Cook for approximate 15-20 minutes until thickened.
Cinnamon Coffee Syrup
1 ½ cup of dark brown sugar
1 whole cinnamon stick
1 ½ cup of water
Place the water in a saucepan and bring it to a boil. Then add the sugar and thoroughly stir to dissolve the sugar in the water. Add the stick of cinnamon into this mixture and simmer for about 5 to 8 minutes. Move the mixture off the heat and let it cool. Strain off the cinnamon stick and pour the syrup into a jar or bottle, and place it in the refrigerator.
For Pumpkin Spice Latte:
Add pumpkin pie spice to your syrup. Then when you make your coffee drink add some pumpkin puree if you like, being sure to add some milk or cream.
For Mochas
Simple add chocolate syrup to your coffee, then cream or milk.
