HOMEMADE CANDY CANE RECIPEFrom: Denise @ littlehouseonthevalley.com/This candy cane recipe is fairly easy to make, but make sure you carefully supervise your children, since candy is still fairly hot when it needs to be pulled. (also don’t expect your candy canes to look like the professional ones you see in the stores.) But they will look like they were made with love!Recipe makes 12 candy canes. What You’ll Need: 1⁄2 cup of light corn syrup 3⁄4 teaspoon of peppermint extract 1⁄4 teaspoon of cream of tartar 2 cups of sugar 1⁄2 cup of water
Cooking Instructions: In a sauce pan, cook the water, corn syrup, cream of tartar and sugar until it reaches a hard ball stage (250-265 degrees F on a candy thermometer). Remove the pan from the head, adding the peppermint extract. Divide the candy into two bowls. Add some red food coloring to one bowl, mixing together thoroughly.
When candy is cool enough to handle, pull pieces out of each bowl of candy, forming it into ropes. You’ll need white ropes and red ropes. Twist white ropes and red ropes together to form candy canes. Place on wax paper and allow to harden.
