There are still arguments about fat. Is it good or is it bad? Research has found out that a LOW FAT diet has made Americans fatter....yes....fatter. Our grandparents didn't use vegetable oils except maybe peanut oil. My mom only cooked with butter, bacon grease, olive oil and gulp...Crisco when making pies. (She was THE best pie maker ever!!!) She changed from lard because she thought Crisco was better for us. Now I only use Coconut oil, bacon grease, olive oil and peanut oil. My hubby loves peanut oil for making popcorn. He makes it on top of the stove and about 99% of the kernels pop. I do have Crisco in my cupboard. When it is used up...I don't want to waste money...I will go back to using Lard. I only have a few recipes that call for it, so it could be a long time...lol. BTW, I am NOT a good pie maker. My mom tried...but I am not a sweets kind of girl, so I never really got the hang of it. Sorry now as Mom died a few years ago at age 90 and I so miss her baking. Anyway...here is a good article about fats and which ones to use when. I am not a fan of Palm oil...I can live without it!
