Holiday Cranberry Sauce (Make the day before) allrecipes.com/ Photo via Pinterest"This recipe was given to me by a friend of mine. It has been a family favorite for over ten years. I make it for Thanksgiving as well as Christmas dinner." MARJK Prep time: 5 min Cook time: 20 min Ready in 8 hrs 25 min Ingredients 4 cups fresh cranberries 1 1/2 cups water or orange juice 5 whole cloves 5 whole allspice berries 3 cinnamon sticks 1 1/2 to 2 cups white sugar (depending on how sweet you want it.) 2 tablespoons Orange zest (optional)
Directions Place fresh cranberries and water in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Wrap cloves, allspice berries and cinnamon sticks in a spice bag. Place in the water with cranberries. Cook until cranberries begin to burst, about 20 minutes. Stir in sugar and reduce heat to low. Continue cooking 5 minutes, or until sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Discard spice bag. Chill in the refrigerator 8 hours, or overnight, before serving.Cooks Note: This MADE our Thanksgiving dinner, and I will never go back to canned cranberries again. It was so easy. I wrapped up the spices in a coffee filter and tied with thread since I didn't have a spice bag.
Loupy's Note: I read a lot of the reviews on this recipe and so many people said they used orange juice instead of the water and then cut down on the sugar. I think that's what I'll do too.ALL RIGHTS RESERVED Copyright 2012 Allrecipes.com
