Homemade Pizza SauceFrom: Tina @ www.mommyskitchen.net/ Recipe adapted from: comfort of cooking People say the secret to perfect pizza is having a great crust. Besides a great crust having a good pizza sauce is just as important. The combination of a fantastic crust and tasty sauce can turn a good homemade pizza into a great homemade pizza. Recipe yields: approx: 3 cups pizza sauce Ingredients: 1 - 15 oz can tomato sauce 1 - 6 oz can tomato paste 1 - tablespoon olive oil 2 - cloves garlic, minced 1/4 - cup onion, minced 1 - tablespoon dried oregano 1 - teaspoon sugar salt to taste
Instructions: In a 10 - 12 inch skillet heat one tablespoon olive oil over medium heat. Add minced onion and garlic and saute until the onion is translucent and tender. Remove from heat and set aside.
In a blender or food processor combine all the ingredients including the onion and garlic and pulse until the sauce is smooth. Pour in to a jar to cool and store in the fridge for a week, or use right away!
Pizza sauce can also be frozen, spoon sauce into ice cube trays and freeze. When frozen just remove and place in zip small lock bags. Approximately five cubes can be used for one large pizza.
Defrost and thaw before using.
