Homemade Caramel Apple Dip
From: lil' luna @ lilluna.com/
My kids LOVE apples. They probably eat at least one every day, and I usually don’t mind since it’s a healthier snack. It does mean I buy several bags each week, but I’m okay with that.
Along with apples, my kids LOVE Caramel Apple Dip. I rarely buy it but when I do they kids are so excited to have it with their apples. So when I saw a recipe from Betty Crocker on Pinterest for a Homemade Caramel Apple Dip, I knew I had to give it a try. I, myself, love Caramel Apple Dip and was so excited to finally learn how to make it myself.
The recipe was fairly easy to do, but it’s one that needs to be followed exactly. Also, as it’s heating up it’s important to keep an eye on it the whole time. I burned the first batch because I left the room for a minute, and then I was too careful and took it off too early the second time. Third time’s a charm I guess. That time I actually stayed right over the pan and made sure I was paying attention and it turned out perfect.
It seriously turned out so yummy! We let it cool down a bit, but it tasted best warm. We still have some left in the fridge that we’ll be heating up to pour over some ice cream this week.
Ingredients
1 cup sugar
2 TB light corn syrup
¼ cup water
¼ cup butter
¼ cup whipping cream
1 TB sour cream
¾ tsp. coarse sea salt
Instructions
In a pot, combine sugar, corn syrup and water over medium-high (mine was on medium) heat - DO NOT STIR.
Cook for about 10 minutes or until the sugar turns a dark caramel color.
Keep it on the heat and add the remaining ingredients.
Whisk until smooth.
Pour into a heatproof container and serve with sliced apples.
