Grandma Statom's Yeast Rolls By Dorene Nagy @ www.justapinch.com/
This is a recipe I got from my Grandma Statom. Its very easy even if you are a beginner in making rolls. Grandma was a cook in a restaurant until she retired. I remember she would fix huge dinners every time we would go by her house. We used to say we are coming to see you don't cook. We would get there and she would have a huge meal cooked for us like it was nothing. I miss you Grandma.
Prep Time: 3 Hr (includes rise time) Cook Time: 20 Min
Serves: 12
Ingredients: 1 package dry yeast 1 cup warm water 1/4 cup sugar 1 tsp salt 3 1/2 cup sifted flour 1 egg 1/4 cup shortening
Directions: In warm water dissolve yeast. Add sugar, salt and 1/2 of flour. Beat thoroughly with mixer for 2 minutes. Add egg and melted shortening. Beat in the rest of the flour gradually until smooth dough. Cover with a damp cloth and refrigerate. Punch down after two hours, or can be left over night in refrigerator before baking, punch down and make into rolls and put on baking sheet. I usually use my cupcake pan or 9 x 13 cake pan. Let rise for 2 hours at room temperature and bake at 400 for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Brush top with butter.
